Armenian Nutmeg Cake

Prep:

Bake for 1 hour then let it cool for 15 minutes

Ingredients

2
cups of brown sugar firmly packed
2
cups of all-purpose flour
2
tsp. of baking powder
1
tsp. of baking soda
1
tsp. ofsalt
1
tsp. of nutmeg
125 grams butter
1
cup of milk
1
egg beaten
1/2 cup
of walnuts

Directions

1.
Combine sugar,and sifted flour, baking powder, and salt. Rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
2.
Press half the mixture into a well greased 20cm square pan.
3.
Dissolve baking soda in milk, add egg and nutmeg and pour over remaining sugar and flour mixture.
4.
Mix well, then spoon into pan on top of pressed in mixture.
5.
Sprinkle walnuts over.
6.
Bake in preheated oven at 350F for 1 hour.
7.
Allow to stand 15 minutes before turning out on to a wire rack to cool.
