Description:

This is a Colombian classic for the holidays, my grandma made them so good. It's like our version of Zeppoles

Ingredients

1
pound of wheat flour
2
tbsp of butter
2
cups of agua de panela (buy panela at Latin stores, it is a concentrated sugar cane block, brown in color)
2
tbsp of orange or lemon peel
2
tbsp of sugar
Vegetable oil

Directions

1.
Beat the flour and butter well.
2.
Gradually add the agua de panela until you get a soft dough.
3.
On a floured surface, spread out the dough with a rolling pin.
4.
Cut the dough into trips one inch wide and about 3 inches long.
5.
Flatten them with the rolling pin.
6.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot.
7.
Fry the strips in batches until they are golden.
8.
Sprinkle with sugar and the citrus peels.
