medium head red cabbage

sour green granny smith apples
Directions

shred the cabbage and peel and core the apples. add just enough water to cover the cabbage and apples and bring to a slow boil. After allowing to cook about 15 minutes add the vineger, sugar and bay leaf. Cover and allow to simmer for approx 2 hours. You can add additional sugar and/or vinegar to personal taste. Add salt and pepper . Right before serving mix 3 tablespoons of cornstarch and a small amount of water together and stir into the cabbage to thicken a bit.
