Slow Cooked Basic Marinara or Meat Sauce

Description:

This is a fairly simple recipe for a pasta sauce. It works as either a marinara or a meat sauce. It should take about 10 minutes to measure out and prepare the ingredients. After that, you just leave it in the slow cooker for a few hours. In a pinch, it can be heated in a sauce pan (about 15-20 minutes), but it's not as good that way.

10 minutes prep, several hours in the slow cooker

Ingredients

1
can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
2
cans tomato sauce (15 oz each)
1
can tomato paste (6 oz)
2
tbsp white sugar
1
tsp Italian seasoning
1
tsp olive oil
3
bay leaves
1/2
tsp oregano
2
cloves of fresh pressed garlic
4
mushrooms, sliced (optional)
1/4
tsp fresh ground black pepper (optional)
1/4
- 1/2 pound ground beef (optional)

Directions

1.
If adding the ground beef, cook it thoroughly in a pan. If using mushrooms, saute them.
2.
Once the meat, and mushrooms are cooked, add all the ingredients into a slow cooker, stir well, and cook. Stir occasionally.
3.
If cooking on the stove, watch the sauce carefully. You do not want it to boil or it will give the sauce a very acidic taste.
