Ingredients

2
pkg dry yeast
1
3/4 cups milk (hot)
3
cups flour
1/4
cup milk (lukewarm)
3
eggs
3/4
cup sugar
1
tsp vanilla
1/2
cup butter
Jam (I like black currant)
Oil (for frying -- you need a lot)
powdered sugar

Directions

1.
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk. Stir one cup of flour into the hot milk, combine and leave in a warm area for 45 minutes. Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla and add to dough, then add the butter and remaining flour.
2.
Turn onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth.
3.
Cover with a towel and place in a warm area for 40 min.
4.
Roll out to 1/8" thickness and cut into rounds with a cookie cutter (I use a glass).
5.
Put 1/2 tsp jam b/w each pair and press edges together.
6.
Let rise 1 hour. Drop into hot oil and fry until brown.
7.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar to finish.
