Description:

This is my grandmother's roll recipe she got from her mother who had baked these rolls as long as my grandmother could remember (she was born in 1896). My own family requests that I make them for every family dinner, because it just isn't dinner without them.

Ingredients

2
T. quick-rise yeast (2 envelopes)
1/4
c. lukewarm water
1
c. milk
1/4
c. butter
1/2
c. sugar
1
t salt
2
eggs, beaten
approximately 5 c. flour

Directions

1.
Soften yeast in water.
2.
Heat milk in microwave until it steams.
3.
Add butter, sugar, salt. Cool to lukewarm.
4.
Add flour to make a thick batter (about 2 cups). Add yeast and eggs and beat well.
5.
Add 2 more cups of flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on lightly-floured board and knead until satiny.
6.
Place dough in a large, greased bowl, cover with a towel or paper towels, and let rise until doubled in bulk.
7.
Punch down when light. Form into desired shapes and place into a greased 13x9" baking pan. Let rise again until doubled in bulk
8.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove from pan and put onto cooling rack. Brush melted butter on top of the rolls. Makes about 40 rolls.
