In a neighborhood of diner food reinventions, It's A Dominican Thing stands out not only on cultural difference but also on quality. Upon passing by this 19th Street gem in heart of Chelsea, one might assume the restaurant's business is waning. There always seems to be a lack a crowd inside this 7 to 9 table restaurant. While the owner(s) may not have a knack for business promotions or decor, they certainly know good traditional Latin food of the Caribbeans. The fried fish is always perfectly golden brown and flaky. The chicken dishes takes me back to when I once had the most heartwarming food from my Puerto Rican friend's mother. The avocado salad is crispy, refreshing and divine. The rice and bean are pluffy and comforting. There'll never be a line or shall you require a reservation. You can always walk in to this place of tropical comfort.
