I don't normally like lamb, but I'll eat any lamb they make. The food is FANTASTIC. Try the Hunkar Special Mix Grill, Hunkar Begendi (lamb cooked in a tomato sauce served over a warm Babaganus **** favorite), or MANTI (Turkish Ravioli served in a yogurt cream sauce). Just writing this is making my mouth water.
I watched as a meat delivery van pulled up outside and the driver opened the back where loose meat was all over the floor of this delivery van. The meat was almost falling out of the van and some meat even touched a dirty bumper.
The Driver picked up some loose meat and stuffed it into a plastic bag then ran into the restaurant.
I can't image this is sanitary much less want it served to me after seeing this.
If they deliver their food like this I can only image what the kitchen prep is like for their food at this place.

I think Hunkar in Turkish means, "Don't eat our meat!"
I have been a regular since they first opened. I travel there all the way from Cliffside Park. I have been to almost all the Turkish Restaurants in North East NJ as well as in New York. This is the one that is freshest, tastiest. It is exactly the taste you will find in top restaurants of Istanbul.
The place is run by a family, who are very friendly. They make you feel like you are a guest rather than a costumer. The neat and clean kitchen is open and easily visible which makes me more comfortable.
I have recommended Hunkar to all my friends and costemers who are really thankful to me.
I highly recommend their Mucver (zucchini pancakes), Adana Kebab and Doner Kebab (Gyro)
I love their adana kebab and humus Their service is lovely . It is family plaece and you wont regret it . TRY SOONEST POSSIBLE
I live right by Hunkar i love the feel of the restaurant and they are so very polite. The menu is unusual but very very delicious. Big portions as well. I recommend the humus, it comes with bread. Great for a quick lunch.
I had been in the restaurant business until recently for about 15 years. I like dining out a few times a week and trying new places. Hunkar was a real find for me when I first tried their food a few years ago and it’s been one of the few places I keep going back since then. Kofte and piyaz are my favorites. They have the best lamb shish kebab I've ever had anywhere. The staff is down-to-earth. The space is very comfortable and their music is always relaxing. I tried zucchini pancakes (mucver) when I was there last time for lunch. It was terrific. I naturally tend to check the cleanliness in every restaurant I go probably because of my background in the restaurant business and I should say that Hunkar is the cleanest restaurant I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how they manage to keep their silverware, china and glasses so clean and spotless. It is an important indication because it tells a lot about the handling of the food and the rest of the equipment in the restaurant.
I’m very surprised to see a negative review about Hunkar involving the meat delivery. First of all, I think we are supposed to review the restaurant here not the delivery people or their van. Secondly, I don’t think the negative reviewer has ever been to Hunkar before. Because if he did, he would see how his comments about Hunkar and their food sound prejudicious. (I guess he is just a jealous competitor trying to find excuses to defame Hunkar).
I’m very comfortable recommending Hunkar to everybody.
