User Reviews for Brasserie Jo
I love Brasserie Jo. For simple, brasserie fare, you can't go wrong. I got the steak frites, which was perfectly cooked in a lot of butter. The wine list is excellent, as are the beers and cognacs. We also had the oysters (fantastic) and the escargot (I'm not a big fan, but everyone else at the table loved them). The desserts are good, if uninteresting. We had the profiteroles, which were as good as most profiteroles are usually. The cognac selection is great. The dining room can be loud, but it's fun and beautifully designed. If you want simple, Alsatian and regional French cuisine, try Jo.
My partner and I went here for our anniversary, really because we needed a French place to get a good bottle of Chateau Neaufdepap. We arrived super early (5 PM) and the restaurant was empty. The service was really attentive and eager to answer any questions, until it got busy. We had the assorted cheeses for an appetizer and then we both got the Steak Frites. How can you go wrong with cheese? (It was slightly odd because none of it was French and none of it was local.) But the chutney had a nice kick to it. The steak was pounded super thin - not quite a breakfast steak, but thin. This just didn't do it for me. It was juicy, but really done all the way through. We ended with a lovely pots de creme. Rich, rich, rich - and OHHHHh did it go well with the wine. So to sum it up, it's good. But seeing the money that I spent, I would most likely try something else before I came back.
