A frenetic and friendly atmosphere, often busy but rarely overwhelmed. The staff is friendly, the grill side service prompt and competent, and the facilities clean. The full bar is extensively stocked and the food is a customizer's dream. That said, BD's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. Because you as the customer control what goes into your dish, in what quantities and ratios, you ultimately control how good(or bad) your meal turns out to be. The restaurant itself offers help - from detailed recipe cards to generalized advice - but if you decide to mix calamari and peanut sauce and the result is less than desirable, the fault ultimately lays with you. For a mix-it-yourself restaurant though, you're given as good a tool set as anyone could expect. The ingredients are fresh, the sauces well seasoned and flavored, and the spices varied and plentiful. A nice touch is the grill staff's willingness to separate your cooking area out if you are vegetarian or have a food allergy and don't want to risk cross-contamination. Overall, a fresh an inviting alternative to pre-made and standardized cuisine.
I love this place. Sandwiches are 'so fast you'll freak' and they are delicious. They have great cold meat traditional sandwiches and some you may not be so familiar with too. Traditionally they take the top layer of bread out of the crust (too fit more food inside). If you want all the bread, just say you want your sandwich LBI, Leave Bread In, and enjoy, it's great!
