We're big fans of this type of restaurant, independent and proud. The first few times we went downtown to eat we passed this place up as we weren't sure what it was. We finally decided to head over and try it the food...and it was amazing. The menu is a little confusing, scary, intimidating as it list foods and mixtures that you may not think go together if you're used to traditional style menus. The blend of Japanese and French works wonderfully. The portions seem small in our super size generation but in truth they are probably perfect (although taking some home would be a treat). The service was prompt and helpful, the atmosphere modern, but warm. You learn that Omakase means trust the chef and honestly after eating there and not trusting the chef, I fully understand that whatever should come on my plate will be a treat to the senses, both visually and to the taste. If I had to say what could be improved is that it might be to different for downtown as this restaurant would be a smash in NY or SD, but it's just what downtown needs, and we should support it.

Visited on a Saturday night. Arrived a few minutes later than our booking but were made to stand by the side of another customers table for 10 minutes whilst the table was prepared and cleaned with window cleaner!! The restaurant is medium sized but very crowded with the tables being positioned very closely together to maximise the number of customers. We were often knocked and nudged by waiters and other customers whilst they were moving about.

When we were finally seated we ordered several popadoms which eventually arrived some 50 minutes later after several reminders. After the popadoms we ordered our starters and main meal. The manager kindly said there would be no charge for the starters due to the long wait. Another 45 minutes passed before the main meal arrived but no sign of the starters. We mentioned about the starters but the waiter wasn’t interested. By this time we were starving and fed up so we just asked them to serve the main course. Two minutes into the main meal the starters arrived and the waiter just threw them down in the centre of the table without saying a word.

Overall the food was distinctly average, bland and the service appalling. When the bill arrived we asked to speak to the manager about the poor service. He did not seem to think there was an issue but after a bit of negotiating he knocked a round of drinks off the bill (the least they could do considering we were in the restaurant two and half hours).

The restaurant was understaffed, and what staff were there were unfriendly, unprofessional and generally poor. Overall a very poor restaurant – we eat out at Indian restaurants regularly and this was by far the worst we have visited. I would advise you avoid and visit another restaurant nearby. We ate at “Austell’s” a few doors down the following night and received amazing food and great service.
