User Reviews for Jerusalem Cafe
I have eaten Middle Eastern cuisine on more than one occasion and more often than I would like to admit I have been confronted with over garlic-ed hummus, under seasoned meats and falafel that had the moisture of shoe leather. Thankfully none of the above will be found at Jerusalem Café Bakery located at 431 Westport Rd in Kansas City’s Westport district. I have had the privileged of sampling a number of items off their menu from appetizers to desserts. I am not a fan of a single entrée, I find that variety of the al a carte nature is more my style and Jerusalem Café is the perfect place to go and sample the offerings. The hummus, falafel, Grilled Saniha and Jerusalem Special hold the top spots on my favorites list. Also they have a large selection of vegetarian fare in which even the most carnivorous of patrons can find happiness.
Discussing the palate stimulating cuisine which is cause for extreme salivation is important but the atmosphere, service and price play critical roles in the appeal of a restaurant and Jerusalem Café and Bakery has it all. The rooms are full of exposed brick, low lighting and small tables of four which can easily be pushed together to accommodate a larger party and brown faux leather booths which line the walls. The décor would be most accurately described as industrial loft complex crossed with a 1970’s diner done in shades of brown, yellow, green and beige, soothing in a grungy sort of way. The staff consist mainly of dark haired, dark eyed gents who are softly spoken but to date have never made a mistake in an order in my experiences. The food usually takes about fifteen minutes to prepare and they whip it out with speed. If the night is busy however it may take more like 20 to 30 minutes before the meal arrives before you. The price is just right with sides running between two and three dollars, entrees between 10 and 15 dollars and desserts between three and five dollars. All around Jerusalem Café and Bakery is a wonderful restaurant at any time of day.
I like the food, the staff, the lack of 'loud' music and the prices. One of my favorite places to eat, drink and relax
