On a gorgeous Friday night, a friend and I decided to hit the infamous Pete's in Montclair. There ended up being a party of 3, even though one was running behind.
We walked down the pathway to the entrance ... and felt as if we were suddenly jetted to a foriegn country. The music. The ambience. The scents circling around from the dishes being served.
We put our name on the list - which was already half-way down the second page of the "updated" list. The wait was 20-30 minutes. People that came after us were told 30 minutes.
Less than twenty short minutes later, we were at a table with our drink order in - a pitcher of manjo mojitos. Our server, Antonio, was such a great kid and took such great care of us. We made some decisions for tapas - chorizo, croquettes, tostones (two seperate dishes), and empanadas de pollo.
Our food was out promptly. Our third person arrived and then ordered another order of both chorizo & empanadas de pollo.
We, for some insane reason, decided it would be a good idea to order main dishes. Two of us got arroz con pollo and the other got a roast pork dish.
When the food arrived, we all barely touched our dishes. Doggie bags for all.
Even though we all could barely breath and were in food comas, we decided to order desserts. LOL!! I ordered their infamous tres leches cake (OMG!! That was just way too good!!!!) and my two friends ordered flan. They both complained about the caramel on top tasting a bit off but ate it all anyway.
All in all, I disagree with any complaint that any person has ever made about Cuban Pete's. With a place as busy as this one, you are bound to not be able to keep everyone happy.
All I can say is that I "rolled" out one happy customer who vows to go back!!!
