About Bay Leaf Indian Brasserie

Tucked down the hall from nbu Fifty Seven, this ambitious Indian brasserie is a midtown staple. Hailed by Gourmet as one of the best Indian restaurants New York has to offer and praised by Zagat who gives it an enthusiastic two thumbs up, Bay Leaf offers its loyal patrons a unique combination of regional and western specialties, while emphasizing its use of heart healthy olive oil.
Chef Frederick Castelins regional specialties include Goan prawn curry, pan fried tiger prawns cooked to perfection in a broth of coconut milk, tamarind, and yellow chilies. Chef Castelin also offers up Western favorites like chicken tikka masala, in which chicken is first oven roasted in a glass enclosed clay tandoor and then cooked slowly with poached tomato and double cream.
Bay Leaf also takes cocktails very seriously. To prove this, Bay Leaf hired famed New York mixologist, Julia Martin, who embraces the Old World cocktail culture and maintains an aptitude for Indian flavor.
