This place is quickly one of my favorites in New York in comparison to some of the places I've been to.
Also to mention that this is the only address I can actually remember in New York which says alot cause New York being so big, doesn't matter much for me.
My usual drink is the Mojito in which they do correctly... occasionally light which is right for a restaurant.
Appetizer of choice is Sweet Plaintains in which they do right as well. Not to greasy and the serving is more than enough... and for the price, you honestly can't go wrong.
My main course is usually the Mango chicken with yellow rice and black beans.
First... the Rice & beans are pretty much perfect. It has that home scent that drives you to the plate. I always get that feeling where I have to devour it but I look around where I'm at and know I can't do that... haha
On top of that, the mango sauce for the chicken is something I occasionally feel new to even though I now I had a few times. The sauce is not thick at all and chicken is nicely tender... no tuffness so it's easy to cut and chew. Definitely a compliment with the rice & beans.
I recommend this place to all... I still haven't checked out there vegetarian menu but will do soon, sometimes its just hard to get away from what you're used to.
Peace,
JudeI Ate:
- Mango Chicken: great... a new taste for sure ($11)

Cheap, Tasty, Comforting. Cafe con Leche is refreshing in the land of "nuevo-Latino" there is no reason anyone should ever pay $30 for Latin food and at Cafe con Leche you will not. Had lunch there and ordered the sancocho and the rabo. The soup was so good I ordered seconds to go. The ox tail was a little fatty, but once you cut off the fat, the meat was sweet and delicious. The bread was tasty and great for dipping.
I Ate:
- Sancocho large: Great, brought another home ($6)
- Ox Tail Special: Delicious and had leftovers ($9)

New York is a city with great restaurants, small eateries, over priced coffee, and ethnic finds. Cafe con Leche is the later. To find a restaurant in the Upper West Side that would attempt to recreate a Spanish Harlem Diner at Spanish Harlem prices is a find.
Try their Sancocho on Thursday and fill up on the rice and beans. You won't find any better within a 20 block radius.I Ate:
- Sancocho: Delicious ($7)
- Yellow Rice and Beans: Amazing ($1)
