This is a fab Italian seafood joint. As we walked in we were greeted by Marika (I hope I spelled her name right) who made us feel right at home. The entire staff was super friendly and our server was incredibly knowledgeable about wine. I shared my app, main course and dessert with my friend. I am told the menu changes, but here is what I had: the amaro salad (bitter greens), halibut and the caramel ice cream with the frangelico syrup? and coffee topped with mascarpone. This is not the place to count calories. The fish was delicious. At first it was salty, then a bit of sweetness creeped in and at the end a little smoke while at the same time completely clean and fresh. Quite delicious. Very nice meal, very nice service and lots of Italian wines. Salute.

To start off, it's not cheap ($75 per person and an additional $120 if you want the sommelier's selected wine pairings). That being said, it was totally worth it. My tasting menu started with crudo, it was sea urchin in the shells. Talk about a decandent start. I am not one who usually likes uni (tried it a bunch of times and have only liked it in two places and esca was one of the two). The second course was Seared monkfish liver (delicious). The third course was the grilled baby octopus, this may have been my favorite course. The octopus was perfectly cooked and had that great smokiness that comes from grilling. I was already reaching nirvana. Fourth course: orecchiette with mussels and clams....even closer still. Fifth course: cod with leeks, the leeks were killer and no complaints on the cod. Finally dessert. I cannot emphasize how worth the money this meal was. The service was impeccable, the food was delightful and I left wanting to return as soon as possible.

Guess I'll have to save up.

So let me begin with mentioning I typically don't critique restaurants. Recently, on business I went to Esca in New York City. I happen to be from NJ although have been to N.Y. a number of instances. My family and I love the assortment of establishments. I found Esca to be tasteful all the way, through the decor through the appearance. Good job on a comforting and satisfied dinnerEveryone in that restaurant amazingly awesome! The food was outstanding. The entrees showed up very quickly. Certainly one of my problems was basically the plating was not that incredible. It was fine however didn't present you with that "wow" element. The quality as well as amount of food was basically wonderful. Even though no true issues. Me and my wife had a fantastic night! So refreshing since there are so many N.Y. eateries that are terrible. We will certainly be soon.
