This is how I feel about Italian food. It's really hard to mess it up, but it's also really hard to do it well, unless it comes with a huge price tag... |

Went to Max after we tried to walk into Lo. Decent Italian food - we both had the house pasta special, which was surprisingly sweet and unusually tasty... |

It turned out to c. They were so awful that if the restaurant served them for free I would be unimpressed but to charge so much, it was a deal breaker... |

One of my favorite restaurants in ny. Now there are too many tourists going, but I still love it. The sauces are perfect. Slightly sweet, perfect quantities served in adorable bowls. Fave dishes are lamb ragu, lasagna, and spaghetti with meat sauce. The appetizers aren't great and neither are the non-pasta dishes. Good and inexpensive wine, and friendly bartenders and waiters. Back patio in the summer with friends is perfection. And it's dark and cozy in the main room which is great during the winter.
I Ate:
- Fettucinne with meat sauce: perfection ($11)
- Portobello Mushroom: boring ($9)

I keep going back for the lamb ragu. I always try my friend's food too and all the sauces and dishes are delicious. I most recently tried the meatload and it was definitely better than Mom used to make! The cozy restaurant is perfect for dates - especially during the summer when they open up the backyard space with a fake laundry line running above the tables. But the best part about Max is the price! This is really great italian food for an incredibly low price.
