Vol De Nuit will rock your world. I discovered what Belgian beer is at this bar. Its almost to say I lost my beer virginity here. Up to now I drank the usual Heineken, Corona as well as other German and English beers, but nothing beats the savory taste of Belgian beer and oh yeah, the high alcohol content will mess you up, lol. Walking down the street, you will never find this bar appealing, it is a darkly lit walk-way. You might even think that it is some private entrance and will not bother to come in. The sign above the door is about 4 inches by 4 inches, literally, the smallest storefront sign I have ever seen. The courtyard is a sitting area and is nice in the summer. The front area is a bar with a second floor and the back area is the main bar area. On the menu you will find various Belgian beers on tap and some bottled ones too. My favorites include Delirium Tremens and Lindenmans Framboise. The food is all about those Belgian frites!!! They are amazing. Order two orders if you have more than two people – or you will not be satisfied. The people that attend this place are College kids as well as 20-somethings. The crown is kind of young and sometimes I feel like they should check some IDs, lol. But the beer is great and the fries are to die for – what else to complain about? The upstairs area is a bit droll – I like the main back area the best. The music here ranges from Indian eclectic to house, electronic – you never know what they will play. Come down during the week before 6 pm after work for a quiet chat. After 7 the music gets turned up and the crowd shows up. The place gets really packed by around 10pm on busy nights. If you plan to use the bathroom you must absolutely plan ahea. There is one and only one bathroom for all the beer drinkers in the place. I stood 5 people waiting lines. It is quite annoying that they have one shared bathroom. But other than that – this place is classic and anyone who loves Belgian beers that are visiting New York or even living here should try it. Don’t be spooked by the dark atmosphere, the red-lights are just for the show. Lol.

    I Ate:

    • Frites: though hardly a big dish - usually - at Vol De Nuit - Frites are amazing and come with some great sauces!!! ($6)
