My boyfriend and I recently went to Bernini's for the first time. We decided to try the place out for Valentine's day although we hadn't heard much about the place. We made reservations, which I'm very glad we did because the place was packed. However, when we were seated we were taken up three stories of stairs past the first 2 floors of other patrons dining. The third floor didn't seem like a restaurant at all. In fact, it was actually reserved for a private party that night but the owners had thrown 5 tables in a corner of the room to make more money off of unsuspecting diners. Clearly, this didn't provide for the most romantic of venues. The lighting was too bright, the candles weren't lit and besides that we were surrounded by a bunch of screaming drunk singles who clearly didn't want us at their party uninvited. Our server was incredibly apologetic but other than that not very knowledgeable. She offered no suggestions or help in selecting our entrees or wine choices. However, the food was very well seasoned and expertly cooked. I had the Filet and while it was a little rarer than I had asked for it was still good. My boyfriend had the Crispy Duck and his was very flavorful as well. Both came with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus which were cooked to perfection. We decided to pass on dessert because the noise was so unbearable that we couldn't even hear each other. And another thing, there was absolutely no parking in the area. It was so bad we ended up having to park at a garage 10+ blocks away and walk to and from the restaurant. And if you know anything about Ybor city, it's not the greatest place to be out walking around after dark. All in all, the food was good and the wine list was decent but it wasn't enough to make me come back. I blame Bernini's of Ybor for ruining my Valentine's Day.
