CommentsI am much better with whites... Chardonnay - creamy and buttery like popcorn Sauvignon Blanc - Citrusy and clean Riesling - Mineraly, sometimes sweet Pinot Grigio - Always a safe choice, clean and light
Well, between Merlot and cab, I think that Merlot is softer and fruitier and has less tannins, something more suited to a younger wine drinker. They are usually better when they are younger, where Cabs need more time to mature.
There are ways to tell wine appart, Pinot Noir & Gamay are usually more transluscent than Cab or Zinfandel. Also it has less tannins and more acidity. If you are talking Tempranillo, esp with Grand Reservas they are usually more of a brick color rather than bright purply red. It just takes a lot of looking and tasting to get to know your varietals.
I can tell Malbecs apart from any other wine. They are my favorites. The color, the nose...yum
I can tell there is a difference and I can tell if I like it or not, but I am not a complete wine dork.
