My writings on eating at home, at restaurants, on vacation and pretty much every place I go.
Top 10 Foodie Flicks
10. Woman on Top - Nothing too deep, but if you are into beautiful brazilians, bossa nova and cooking, this is the flick for you. Isabella is an amazing chef with a motion sickness problem. She marries Toninho and all is fine until he gets sick of her always being on top...then the magic begins.
9. Soul Food - Sunday dinner has been going on for 40 years at Mother Joe's. Just like any family, put that many people together and the "bochinche" as we call it in my family starts. You'll find yourself inviting the family over in no time.
8. Supersize Me - Do not watch this before you eat. Make any fast food eating friend watch it. A documentary on the dangers of fast food and the politics behind it. I haven't touched a Big Mac since.
7. Mostly Martha - As if a Chef's life wasn't har enough, Martha is put in the position to take in her orphaned niece. Martha is repressed and "slighlty" neurotic about her food and will make you laugh incredibly hard. The movie is touching and delightful.
6. Babette's Feast - A pair of sisters who care for a church have a surprise visitor ask for refuge. In gratitude this visitor prepares the feast of a lifetime, but little do they know, she carries with her a very interesting secret.
5. Eat Drink Man Woman - Tao Chu, Taiwan's top chef is battling more than the kitchen. He battles the ravenous budding sexual appetite of his daughters. Incredibly funny complex, poignant and sweet.
4. The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover - This will make you think twice about cheating on your sanguine crime boss. Food, sex, murder, do I need to say more.
3. Chocolat - Ok, so I am some what cliche, but this was an amazing movie. There should be more movies about chocolate, it is wonderful. There should be even more movies with Johnny Depp. Chocolate and Johnny Depp - can there be a better combination?
2.Tampopo - So incredibly funny, satire at its best. A widow runs a really bad noodle restaurant and two truc drivers help her bring it up to par. I can't even go into everything that happens, but this will have you laughing the whole time.
1. Like Water For Chocolate - My all time favorite movie - Set in Mexico and doused with magical realism. Tita is the youngest of three daughters and is is blessed with the power to infuse feelings into her food. Due to family tradition she can never wed and must always take care of her incredibly evil mother. Tita falls in love with the oh so handsome Pedro and then the story begins - if you have not seen this you gotta get on your netflix and make it number one on your list, YOU WILL CRY, YOU WILL COOK, YOU WILL WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
