If you happen to be in New England on August 29, you might want to check out the Second Annual Fields of the Saco event, which will give 100 lucky diners an opportunity to sample the best of the season’s harvest, while dining al fresco under tents. Participants will be able to sample locally produced cuisine prepared by four chefs from some of the area’s finest eateries.
Fields of the Saco will take place in the fields of Weston’s Farm on the Saco River and will include specially selected and locally-produced wine pairings and Maine Cold River Vodka. All items on the extensive four-course menu will have been raised or produced on local family farms in the two bordering states of Maine and New Hampshire.
The event begins at 1 p.m. and includes guided farm tours, showcasing foods, flowers and local products, as well as live music and a “wet art” auction (paintings created on site). The day’s activities will culminate with an evening bonfire.
Tickets are $125 and are limited to the first 100 people. This slow food event is one of many that are planned around the country to help showcase local farms and their efforts at sustainability. Proceeds support the Mount Washington Valley’s Green Team’s efforts to engage local residents and businesses in adopting eco-friendly practices to reduce their environmental impact.
