Looks like everyone wants to get into fermented grape juice. We recently reported on “The Donald’s” foray into wine. Now it is the Foodtertainment behemoth The Food Network.
Food Network is collaborating with Wente Vineyards to put out Entwine. If this is your thing, you may want to know that they will be offering 4 varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and (of course) Pinot Grigio at a retail cost of about $13. I am sure that it will be a wine to please the crowds, after all, this wine has to please all 100 million households that watch the network, so don’t expect anything too complex or tasty (I predict something like Cavit or Santa Margherita).
A quote from Sergei Kuharsky, General Manager of New Enterprises, Food Network on their press release states “We wanted to take the mystery out of wine for our viewers so that they could enjoy the marriage of food and wine as much as we do,”. Basically, make juice everyone likes.
This could mean big bucks for Wente, one of the few remaining family operated companies in the country. Guess I’ll have to pick up a bottle to taste when the wine is released in the summer.
