Conde Nast has announced that Gourmet Magazine, a 60+ year old magazine will cease publication.
Known for it’s high gloss and celebrity chef features, Gourmet magazine was started by Earle MacAusland in 1941. Gourmet magazine thrived under current editor in chief Ruth Reichl under whom Gourmet received many publishing awards.
The decision to close the magazine was made after an assessment by McKinsey & Co. advised Conde Nast to cut 25% of their expenditures in order to keep the rest of the company afloat.
Gourmet’s print properties have followed the same fate as national newspapers and niche publications as a direct effect of new media outlets, reality food tv and declining print advertising revenues.
We look forward to seeing what comes next from the people who worked at Gourmet.
