Jewel’s Bakery and Cafe in Phoenix, Arizona offers American comfort food, served with fresh baked breads. We had a chance to talk to chef and owner, Julie Moreno, who shared with us a few tidbits about the restaurant, their food, concept, and business philosophy. Here’s what we learned:

FE: Can you tell us about Jewel’s Bakery and Cafe?
Julie Moreno: We are a local, family owned restaurant with an all scratch kitchen. The focus is on fresh and local fare served in a relaxing vintage, eclectic setting that makes you feel at home. All of our baked good and breads are made fresh daily. We have a full bakery and offer custom cakes, wedding cakes and catering. The new dinner menu is amazing and includes fresh made pasta, charcuterie, vegetable curry and much more not to mention our craft cocktails, ciders and wine menu. Our menu has something for everyone and we cater to many different food allergies and preferences.
FE: Have you won any awards that you are particularly proud of?
Julie: We won “The Best of Phoenix” for 2 years in a row and have been names one of the Top 10 bakeries in Phoenix. Recently we won “Best Bite of the Night” at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix Gala.
FE: What is your restaurant philosophy?
Julie: We really strive to provide fresh amazing food from scratch and excellent customer service.
Chicken and Waffles
FE: What is your most popular dish?
Julie: Our most popular dish has to be the Chicken and Waffles. Our fluffy Belgian waffle is paired with perfectly crispy, all natural chicken, our warm house-made buttermilk syrup and honey Sriracha sauce.
FE: In a few sentences, can you tell us what makes your restaurant different?
Julie: Being an all scratch, gluten free bakery and cafe is a feat in itself. But what makes us stand out is our food can stand up to the best restaurants out there no doubt. We strive to be the best overall bakery and restaurant, not just the best gluten free one.
FE: By any chance do you offer deals or specials?
Julie: We have happy hours specials on food and drinks from 4-6 daily as well as weekend brunch.
