Kellari Taverna is the perfect place for lunch, brunch and dinner events. They are serving the finest Greek Mediterranean Seafood in New York City. They purchase produce, meat and seafood through select domestic and international purveyors, and local distributors at the New York markets. We had a chance to talk to Chef Dan Nistorescu, who shared with us a few tidbits about Kellari Taverna, their food, concept, and business philosophy. Here’s what we learned:
FriendsEAT: Can you tell us a little something about Kellari Taverna?
Chef Dan: Kellari Taverna serves the freshest Greek & Mediterranean Seafood in New York City, making it the perfect location for a business lunch, intimate dinner or weekend brunch. The restaurant is Midtown gem, with wood-beamed cathedral ceilings and walls warmed in sunset hues. It’s no wonder the restaurant has become an institution over its last 10 years in business.
Restaurateur Stavros Aktipis is the force behind Kellari in New York City and its sister location in Washington D.C. In addition to running day to day operations at both locations, Aktipis also owns and operates Petit Poulet and Martinique Cafe in Herald Square and is an investor in Strip House.
FE: What is your restaurant philosophy?
Chef Dan: Above the bar at Kellari, the words “Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends”are inscribed on a placard. It’s that feeling of warmth and welcoming hospitality that permeates the entire experience at Kellari.
