FriendsEAT: Tell us a little something about Lucila’s Restaurant.

Chef Patricia Quintana: Located on the ground floor of Mazatlan’s only boutique hotel, Casa Lucila, in the city’s vibrant Centro Historico, Lucila’s Restaurant serves innovative Mexican cuisine alongside traditional Sinaloan dishes. The state of Sinaloa ” where the city of Mazatlan resides ” is known as the “bread basket of Mexico,”and, as such, guests can enjoy fresh ceviche, shrimp and produce sourced from the local marketplace, as well as machaca, a traditional meat dish, among other regional specialties. The bar program highlights local cervezas, wines, whiskeys and ports, as well as a vast variety of tequilas. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Lucila’s provides expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and a generous patio ideal for al fresco dining.

FE: What is your most popular dish? Why do people love it?

Chef Patricia: The Ceviche de Camaron de Escuinapa, or Shrimp Ceviche, is especially popular. Mazatlan is often referred to as the “shrimp capital of the world,”shipping and processing more than 40,000 tons of shrimp every year, and shrimp is a prominent ingredient in many dishes. Lucila’s Shrimp Ceviche is exceptionally fresh. Additionally, many dishes incorporate machaca, a traditional Sinaloan meat dish. The Quesadillas con Machaca is a popular dish amongst guests.

FE: And what is the one cocktail your bartender loves to make?

Chef Patricia: Casa Lucila is affectionately named in honor of the founder’s mother, Lucila Valdez de Valades. Lucila’s Restaurant features eight signature cocktails, each named after one of Lucila Valdez de Valades’ eight daughters, which also correspond to the names of each of Casa Lucila’s eight guest rooms. Popular choices include the Chayito, inspired by a White Russian, and the Conchita, which utilizes local Los Osuna Blanco Blue Agave tequila and grapefruit juice.
