Mignonette is a former 1930s gas station that was turned into an oyster bar and seafood haven with luxurious and down-home options. We had a chance to talk to executive chef and owner, Daniel Serfer, who shared with us a few tidbits about the restaurant, their food, concept, and business philosophy. Here’s what we learned:

Executive chef and owner Chef Daniel Serfer
FriendsEAT: Tell us a little something about your restaurant.
Chef Daniel Serfer: Mignonette is housed in a former-1930s gas station in the heart of Miami’s up-and-coming Edgewater neighborhood. Known as a fun oyster bar and seafood haven, Mignonette offers a dynamic menu of quality dishes as well as down-home options. At its heart, Mignonette is a place to slurp oysters, sample fine caviar, dig deep into a fried shrimp po’boy, savor one of Mignonette’s beautifully-rendered main plates, and enjoy craft beer or a glass of wine from the whimsically curated wine list. The restaurant is open for dinner nightly; lunch is served Monday through Friday along with Happy Hour from 5:30PM to 7PM.
FE: Are there any Awards you have received? Any you’re particularly proud of?
Chef Daniel: TimeOut’s 21 Best Seafood Restaurants in America, Miami New Times Best Chef 2015
FE: What is your restaurant philosophy? Is there something that everyone strives for with each action taken at your restaurant?
Chef Daniel: This summer our rally cry is; don’t tell us what you ate, tell us who you ate with. We hope that guests choose to eat with us time and time again.

Swordfish Dish
FE: What is your most popular dish? Why do people love it?
Chef Daniel: This Swordfish Dish is a guest and staff favorite. The slightly meatier feel of swordfish allows it to stand up to bolder flavors. The hericot vert, almonds and brown butter that go along with give it the perfect balance.
FE: And what is the one cocktail your bartender loves to make?
Chef Daniel: No liquor license, but we make a mean ‘fancy mimosa’ champagne and fresh squeezed blood orange

Fresh Oysters
FE: What makes you stand out above the rest?
Chef Daniel: We are a no-frills kind of restaurant. People come back for the bold flavors and straight forward cuisine. You will not find tweezers in our kitchen.
FE: Do you offer any deals such as happy hour specials, brunches, etc?
Chef Daniel: Happy Hour is from 5:30-7pm Monday – Friday throughout the entire restaurant. We offer 8 oyster varieties for $2 each, $1 clams, $5 beers, $7 glasses of wine.
