Summer is up, and the heat is definitely getting into you, keeping your throat dry. It sure feels like a nice bottle of mineral water would be enough to quench your thirst. That is the best way to keep your body healthy.
That is, if that bottle of mineral water does not harm you first.
Bottled mineral water is without doubt a beneficial drink at times when clean drinking water is unavailable. It can be a refreshing drink during a cold day, and is definitely the kind that you should have instead of sodas and artificially-flavored juices.
But is mineral water really good for you? Experts think that is not the case.
Mineral water is exactly what it says it is ” mineralized water. Yes, it can be cleaned and sterilized before bottling, but let us not forget that some bottlers would add certain minerals to make it “healthier.”Fluoride is good for the teeth, magnesium and phosphorous replace lost electrolytes, and calcium for stronger bones.
Of course, like everything else, too much of a good thing is bad. When you drink nothing but mineral water, you end up clogging your body with unnecessary minerals. At worst, it can give you kidney troubles. Remember kidney stones? You can get that from drinking too much mineral water. Giving it to kids most of the time might not be a good idea, too, since their bodies do not need the fortified water at all.
Tap water will do the trick, as far as hydration is concerned. But if you are not sure about how safe it is, then boil it for at least three minutes. That would do. At least you can skip on the extra stuff that mineral water contains.
