I know your dilemma: New Year is coming near, and along with it comes that problem that we commonly call “The New Year’s Eve Party.”You’re too grown up to want to go to a club and have people step all over your shoes. You are too financially sound to overpay for sub-par sparkling. You decide to throw a bash on your own.
Don’t fret, it’s not really that hard. Here are a few tips to get you started on a headache-free party:
Plan ahead ” ideally, you should start preparing for the party at least a week or two in advance. This way, you can figure out who to invite and what to serve.Start late ” there no point inviting your friends early for an event that’s to happen at midnight. Invite them to come at, say, 9 p.m. or a bit after that.
Ask ” This is a good opportunity for you to check if any of them have allergies or dietary constraints. There’s nothing worse than having vegetarians over and serving only meat (specially during a drinking event).
Plan the food ” it should work around your budget and the time you have to spend. Will you cater, make stuff on your own? Will you sucker someone into helping you cook?
Prepare light ” since the guests are coming late at night already, it could be safe to say that they’ve had their dinner. So just whip out some light snacks to help you go through the night until New Year’s Eve.
Get assistance ” this would make sense for a large party. Hire a catering service so that you can concentrate on organizing the party without having to deal with the cooking. Plus, you don’t have to deal with the cleaning-up after the event. You could even hire a waiter or bartender if there are a lot of people to serve.
Phone a friend ” at the very least, have a friend come over to help you with the preparations. Not only will this halve the time you need to spend, it can make the whole activity fun.
Get the music going ” Check out services like Pandora which are fairly inexpensive and do the DJing for you.
Let the drinks flow ” all New Year’s Eve parties must have some alcoholic beverages, so stock up beforehand with enough ice and drinks. It would also be a swell idea if you make cocktails. And don’t forget to party with the designated drivers. Give them alcohol free drinks that are more interesting.
Have fun ” that’s the most important part of the party. Enjoy yourselves and things will take a life of its own.
