Mom slaves away all day in the kitchen…ok…maybe not anymore. Today’s mom may be better at ordering from Seamless, but it’s no excuse not to treat her to a special meal for Mother’s Day. These are our picks at all price points to fit all budgets:
Contorno’s: This lower Midtown Italian restaurant is offering special Mother’s Day Brunch menu which includes a rose for mom. I am told the restaurant will offer a complimentary mimosa at brunch for mom (with their new brunch menu) and a complimentary glass of wine at dinner (with their new dinner menu). Contorno’s is located at 30 W. 31st St. For reservations and details, call 212-760-0301.
Haru Sushi: Haru will be serving up a special 3-course Mother’s Day menu for just $25 per person. This is by far one of the best Mother’s Day deals in town (and with various locations, you can craft a day to Mom’s delight), so book early. Haru has various locations. Check their website for details and reservations.
Jeanne & Gaston: Chef Claude Godard has crafted a gorgeous meal to make mom feel truly marvelous. The prix fixe is $35 and includes a cocktail for mom. Dishes include a Maine crab cake on a bed radish and orange dressing, roasted squab two ways, and a passion fruit Daquoise. Maybe their fabulous back yard will be open by then for “Al Fresco” dining. Jeanne & Gaston is located in the West Village at 212 West 14th Street. For information and reservations, call (212) 675-3773.
Madison Bistro: On Mother’s Day Sunday you can treat your mom to a classic French meal. The best part? It’s actually affordable, 3 courses $35. Some highlights from the menu are: mussel “Chartreuse”and lobster bisque, rabbit fricassee with black olive Nicoise, and a strawberry soup & frozen almond parfait. Sounds like a steal to me. Madison Bistro is located steps away from Grand Central Station at 238 Madison Avenue. For reservations and details call (212) 447-1919.
Maya: Mexican? For Mother’s Day? Claro que si! At Richard Sandoval’s Upper East Side Mexican restaurant Mexican is brought to its highest notes. The Mother’s Day menu will feature a shared appetizer platter, choice of entree, and dessert. The restaurant usually opens at 5pm, but will be opening for brunch on Mother’s Day from 11am to 2pm. The prix fixe menu will be priced at $35 per person (this is an incredible deal). Maya is located at 1191 1st Ave., for reservations and details call (212) 585-1818.
Millesime: Chef Laurent Manrique’s gorgeous restaurant is the perfect way to pamper mom. Millesime’s Mother’s Day brunch (11:30-3pm) includes some of the restaurant’s signature dishes as well as one complimentary bottle of Prosecco with your reservation! Dishes will include Chef Ashkinaze’s Jean-Louis quenelles (the best in the city), Caesar Grillee (best of 2011), and some sweet additions to the menu such as their brioche French toast sandwich (blueberry, apple and mascarpone). Millesime is located at 92 Madison Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. For reservation and details call (212) 889-7100.
Park Room: Take mom for a stroll through Central Park and then replenish those calories at the Park Room at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel. There will be two menu options by Executive Chef, Anthony Marra. The brunch buffet is $70 per person, dinner is $50 per person. If you stay two nights at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel you get a complimentary brunch for your mother. I think that sounds like a perfect excuse to visit Manhattan. Park Room is located at 36 Central Park South. For reservations and details call (212) 371-4000.
Smoke Jazz Club: This is our choice for the friend-mom. You know, the mom that let you drink at home with friends. No boring meal is good enough for her. Candlelit tables, plush velvet banquets, antique chandeliers, JAZZ and dishes prepared by Chef Patricia Williams are a great way to show mom just how cool she really is. You will have a choice of either a three course brunch or a three course dinner featuring dishes such as: spring pea soup and lobster risotto. This Mother’s Day, Chef Chirico will be offering dishes such as his Portuguese Octopus with jalapeno pesto and Calabrian chili, and Burrata Ravioli with light truffle cream. The restaurant will also offer special foodie gifts bags to guests dining on Mothers Day. Vai is located at 429 Amsterdam Avenue in New York’s Upper West Side.
