The New Year is when we all try to get healthier…however, in a city like New York where there is so much damn good food, it can be pretty difficult to stick to your goals. Lucky for us, there are some awesome restaurants offering healthy options in NYC so you can get out of the house, have a great time with friends, and leave without feeling guilty and like you need to spend the entire morning the next day on the treadmill. These are some of our favorite healthy dish offerings in New York.

Restaurants Offering Healthy Options in NYC

Restaurant in Harlem Healthy

If you’re looking for healthy restaurants New York, Tsion Cafe in Sugar Hill will fit the bill

Tsion Cafe (Harlem)

You may think you’re entering a cafe, but what’s hidden behind the doors of Tsion Cafe is a food and culture experience like no other in Sugar Hill. Once home to the famous Jimmy’s Chicken Shack club, Tsion Cafe has morphed delicious Ethiopian and Mediterranean inspired cuisines, International wine & beers, to fair trade Ethiopian coffees and teas, into a memorable speakeasy experience. Tsion Café’s menu is influenced by the worldly travels of owner Beejhy Barhany and includes vegan and gluten-free options and their injera is made on-site. We asked Barhany why Harlem was the chosen location for Tsion Cafe. Beejhy told us that “Opening Tsion as a healthy eating venue in Harlem was important, not only because we were part of the community, but because we wanted to provide our community with wholesome food that nourishes the body and soul. Ethiopian food follows the farm-to-table concept. The dishes are healthy, made from fresh wholesome ingredients, and packed full of nutrition. Ethiopian food is the perfect way for those looking to start their New Year off on the right foot.”  When you go, check Tsion’s ‘Ethiopian Veggie Combo’ with Shiro, atakilt, red lentil, kik alicha, gomen, beets served with injera, it’s a delicious way to stick to those New Years resolutions.

Tsion Cafe is located at 763 St. Nick Street in Harlem’s Sugar Hill

Honeybrains (The Village)

Healthy restaurants The Village New York

Honeybrains is a perfect place if you need a brain and energy boost

If you’re a New Yorker you probably work your butt off, are constantly putting out fires, coming up with solutions, and deal with insanity all day. If this is you, then a stop at Honeybrains is in order. This family-owned restaurant is led by a female former federal DA. As its name suggests,  Honey is – obviously – a big part of the restaurant, which is armed with a “brain bar” based on a wide variety of honey, but don’t be fooled. There’s much more to offer. The food on the menu at Honeybrains runs the gamut from eggs (and even steak) for breakfast to toasts,  bowl, salads, and sandwiches that adherent nutritional guidelines as determined by a neuroscientist, who is part of the family, and a nutritionist in collaboration with the chef.  The food is beyond yummy and Honeybrains has been so successful that they’re opening a second location this quarter in the 20s.

Honeybrains also has a very ambitious proprietary juice program, each flavor of which is designed to promote various aspects of brain and emotional health.  Despite its health focus, Honeybrains has a very fun, cool vibe, so while it provides you with delicious brain food, it also gives you a respite from the insanity that is NYC.

Honeybrains is located at 372 Lafayette Street, NY

Public House (Midtown)

Healthy restaurants Midtown

Looking for healthy restaurants in Midtown Manhattan? Public House offers some great options

If you’re headed to the heart of Times Square for a show, or if you’re checking out some of NYC’s most iconic attractions like Bryant Park, the Theater District, and Rockefeller Center – Merrion Row + Public House is a fantastic spot to help you stick with your New Year’s resolutions. Public House has embraced the heart of Dublin and has brought it to Midtown New York. Nods to Ireland can be found in the hotel’s décor, food, and service, aiming for guests to arrive a stranger and leave a friend. A few items on the menu to keep you healthy while keeping your tummy happy are Public House’s Spaghetti Squash Cacio e Pepe and their vegetarian Beyond Burger. Cool tuff, right?

Merrion Row + Public House is located at 119 West 45th Street.
