Celebrity chefs have reached rock star status. They write best-selling cookbooks, go on road trips, have their own cable shows, hire booking agents, and do live shows that command huge crowds. Now they even have their own Awards Show rivaling the Oscars: the 2010 “Tasty Awards”.
The Tasty Awards share the same theme as the Oscars or Emmys and acknowledge outstanding excellence and achievement for television, film, and online video and mobile content centered on food, drink, fashion and design. In October, nominations were accepted, and finalists were announced on December 1st. The finalists were selected by the Tastemaker Awards Panel, comprised of food editors, editors, writers and bloggers, chefs, television producers and stations, online video platforms, mobile device providers, and others. There is also a set of Viewer’s Choice Awards, selected online by the general public. Nominated submissions include web programs, television programs, mobile content, films and documentaries. There are also special category awards for promotions and branded campaigns, as well as for casts and personalities.
Winners of the Tasty Awards will receive their honors on January 14th, 2010 at a two-hour celebration in San Francisco, at the Sundance Kabuki theatre. The program will air on a variety of stations nationwide in February 2010, and will be hosted by food and travel television star Zane Lamprey of “Three Sheets”fame, and will feature food stars and celebrities including Tyler Florence — Food Network, Joanne Weir — PBS, G. Garvin — TV One, Tanya Holland — Food Network, Gary Vaynerchuk — Wine Library TV, Marcy Smothers — Radio, Novella Carpenter — Author, Anita Chu — Author, Dominique Crenn — Food Network – Next Iron Chef, Brian Solis — New Media Guru, Marissa Churchill — Bravo, Top Chef, and many more.

Award finalists with several nominations each are Anthony Bourdain, Top Chef, Project Runway, Cake Boss and Guy Fieri. Special Achievement Awards have been announced for Anthony Bourdain, Martin Yan, Paul Prudhomme, YouTube, Alton Brown, Jacques Pepin, Meryl Streep, Giada De Laurentiis, and Tim Gunn, among others. Some of the Awards categories include Best Drink or Beverage Program, Best Food Program, Best Fashion or Design Program, Best Online Broadband Series, Best Video Podcast, Best Travel Series, Best How-to Program, Best Chef in a series, Best Mixologist in a series, and Best Home Cook in a series.
