Dieting can be a very difficult endeavor – especially for people who are trying to lose weight. It’s possible that they have tried various methods but have still ended up not losing any. In worst case scenarios, they may have ended up adding a few pounds more. That’s why it’s understandable if there are people who have quit their regimen all together. It seems like they have used up all available resource they have with still no results.

Fortunately, there is hope for those who want to lose weight. It is guaranteed to be safe, sure, and there’s a less possibility of it from failing. It’s called the HCG diet, and many people are starting to pay attention. But what is HCG diet? How does it work? Who could benefit from it? And what are the risks associated to it?

To start with, let’s first discuss what HCG means. HCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotropine, is a glycoprotein hormone produced in pregnancy that is made by the developing embryo after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta). It helps maintain proper pregnancy in women, and ensures that the fetus gets the right amount of nutrients to survive. The hormone does that by making the body convert the mother’s accumulated fats into nutrients for the fetus to feed on. That’s the reason why, despite the prevalence of morning sickness in women, the baby can still continue to grow.

When placed in the context of dieting, it can help by making the body use its stored fats for energy. This is especially important in the HCG diet, since a person should only consume 500 calories a day. The rest of the calories come from the energy converted from fats. Oral drops and injections are a common method of introducing HCG into the body.

The advantage of this method is that people who undergo this diet lose weight fast. And since they are under constant maintenance of the HCG hormone, there’s the lesser chance of those fats from coming back. There’s also no risk of making the dieter hungry, since the hormone suppresses appetite as well.

The only problem that can be attributed to it would probably be on the side of proper nutrition. Since the individual could only take in so few an amount of food, he may not be receiving enough vitamins and minerals to sustain his activities. For those who really want to go through the diet, vitamin and mineral supplements are a common requirement. But for those who are desperate, such inconvenience is nothing compared to the chance of finally shedding those flabs.
