I went to Kobe for dinner last night. I generally go here for sushi only. I've found that I have a much better customer service experience when I sit at the sushi bar, rather than a booth or table in the main restaurant. The sushi chef, whose nametag says -Bob Wasabi- (how much do you love that), always has a great smile and is very attentive. He always wants to make sure you're having a good time. I had the KC Roll (shrimp tempura with crab on top) and the Creamy California Roll, which has their own special hot sauce on top that adds a nice kick. We also had the edamame and steamed shrimp dumplings. Everything was great. The only thing that would make it better is if they had more than one street parking area...but you can't have everything you want.

Let's paint a picture. Prom Night with 15 couples who had made advanced reservations at 6:30 arrive at the Kobe Power & Light location. They are seated 45 minutes late, takes them more than 30 minutes to have their order taken and have drinks ordered (remember, it is Prom, so Sodas and water). When they tell the server they need to rush since they are on a time crunch, they are told their food has yet to be started and it won't be ready until close to 8:30 (two hours after reservation). Kids leave, go to IHOP have a great time and brush it off! I however would recommend NOT going to KOBE if you are in a large group and will recommend that my company not plan any events of large groups at this location.

We had to wait for our whole party to arrive before being seated. We had reservations for 7pm on a Friday night and waited an additional 30 minutes to sit down because two of our eight guests were running behind. After being seated, we waited approximately one hour before we were greeted and orders for drinks were taken. Thirty minutes later, our chef finally appeared. By then we were extremely frustrated at the fact that the restaurant wasn't even half full, yet we had waited so long for everything. With that being said, the chef immediately put a smile on all our faces. He was very engaging and was a wonderful entertainer. However, there is little to be said for the servers....The service staff was horrible but the chef was awesome. You may want to bring a drink with you in case you get thirsty while waiting for an hour and half :).

Not the most energetic of Japanese Steak houses I've been too. Food tasted as expected but atmosphere left plenty to be desired.

Last time (winter 2013) I went the manager was horrible. The place was so full and there were no food available most of the time (the trays were all empty except 1 or 2). Yet the manager kept on letting more people in even though we complained about it. We asked for discount because we had very little food. He refused and said that -this is a buffet, you get whatever is available- and that -it will not be fair for others if I give you discount-. We insisted and eventually he gave us 50% off yet he never thought there was anything wrong with what he did (letting the place overflow while almost no food, and bad attitude)

Never again! Went for a birthday party, shrimp was over cooked and by the time they get it to your plates it's cold. To top it off they charge each guest a 15% gratuity then kept our change.

The food was decent but the customer service left a taste in my mouth so bad that even the best sushi could not mask it.so i had never been there before, i didn't know it was buffet only during lunch or what the deal was. so they sit us down and then no waiter comes by, we were about to leave until 10 minutes later we finally get waters and they guy is like 'why havent you gotten food yet' like we were retarded. so anyway i go up and dish out. i take the rice off of my sushi cause i don't like rice, when i go up for seconds this chef guy comes out and says 'cant you read the sign' and i was like what are you talking about? and he points to this sign and is like 'read that for me' i didnt know what he was getting at so i read it to him (maybe he didnt know english or something) and at the very bottom it says 'if you want sashimi ask the chef' and hes like 'i saw a bunch of rice left over on your plate. you cant do that.

This past Saturday night my friends, family, and I went to Kobe Steakhouse (KCMO P&L District location) for dinner to celebrate my bachelorette party. We made our reservations for fifteen guests a week in advance with no problem. Our reservation was for 7:30 and about an hour before that we got a call from the restaurant asking us to be there fifteen minutes before to -make sure we're comfortable.- Although that was late notice, we told them we would try our best. The entire party was there by 7:25. We were sat about twenty minutes later at the grill that would only comfortably seat 12. We tried to make it work by pulling chairs from other tables to create more seating. We sat there for about 25 minutes and finally someone came to our table and asked us if we wanted to split into two areas so we would have more room. We decided to move to another set of tables for more room. It was disappointing that we all weren't able to sit together and I wish that someone had told us, when we made the reservation, that the grill setups would not accommodate parties of 15. We would have gone somewhere else. Over the next twenty-thirty minutes we watched another party come in, be sat, get their drinks, and have their dinner cooked for them. At this point only one of our tables had drinks and the other half had not yet been greeted. They had to eventually ask a staff member if they could get their drinks ordered. The staff member said they thought they had already been taken care of (even though they didn't even have waters in front of them). at this point we were thinking about paying for our drinks and leaving, but at 8:30 on a Saturday night, we thought it might be hard to get in at a restaurant downtown with 15 of us and I was really looking forward to Kobe's food that I had heard a lot of great things about. We decided to stay. Finally at 9:15 (two hours after they told us to be there) Both tables had drinks and the chef came to my table to start making our food. Once he was t

Worst place I ever ate at. Hateful/Racist looks from all staff members. Cold food. Terrible service. Hidden fees. Too high of a check. Glad to hear it closed.

Worst spent $60. We chose to sit in a booth and immediately regretted it. Seats are an off white and completely stained up and gross. Initial service was quick [as expected since there were less than a dozen other customers at 7PM on a Friday]. Received our drinks, soup and salad in a timely manner and soup and salad tasted good, not outstanding. I ordered the standard hibachi chicken and my husband got hibachi steak and shrimp. We were very disappointed by the entrees. My chicken was overcooked with little to no sauce making it very dry and hard to swallow. My husband ordered his steak medium but received it crispy, well done, and the shrimp was rubbery. Didn't realize how spoiled we were by our hometown Japanese steakhouse in Cedar Falls, IA. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone!
