I have enjoyed the dining experience in Fumio many times, and I haven't regretted it once. Their food is beautifully plated and it tastes even better than it looks. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly.I would definitely recommend you to try it out, and I will be there soon again.
I ate at Fumio last night. We were 2 couples and we all thought the food was tasty, nice atmosphere, and the waiter was very attentive. We had a variety of sushi, appetizers, soup, 2 different fish dishes and a steak. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Expensive, though, so not for every day.
Do not go to this restaurant during New Year's Eve! Four friends and I decided to enjoy a nice New Year's Eve dinner at Fumio. We had dinner at this restaurant when the former chef was still there and the food was amazing. Unfortunately, the experience on NYE left much to be desired. We arrived promptly at 8pm for our reservation and was seated right away. We should have known that we were in for a long night after sitting at our table for 20 minutes. It shouldn't have taken so long to receive our appetizers when they offered a fixed menu. Finally, we received our salad and sushi made with over done rice, but they ran out of soup and did not offer a substitute or to credit our bill. My friend and I asked repeatedly for hot tea since we were seated under an air conditioning vent. It took them 2 hours to bring me tea; they, however, never brought tea for my friend. On to the main entree, my friend's meatloaf was heavily salted, so much so that she couldn't eat it. My husband's salmon was overdone and dry and my sea bass was raw. Yes, it was raw. When I brought attention to the situation, the waitress had the nerve to ask me if I still wanted my meal. Was she kidding? We were paying $70 per head plus a 20% gratuity and 7% sales tax. After I told her I wanted my food back, she took it to the kitchen and brought it back 20 minutes later charred. Last and not least, they brought us our dessert which consisted of ice cream and cake. The ice cream unfortunately was completely melted so they tried to convince us that it was syrup for the cake. Keep in mind that we saw other people receive solid ice cream. Unbelievable!!! And to top it all off, the manager complemented my looks incessantly in the hopes that we would not complain. He also basically told us that we should just suck it up because everyone wants to be happy on New Year's Eve and he couldn't please everyone. I told him I can understand that but the service was so bad and you just don't serve someone raw food. In the end, he gave us
a $50 gift certificate that expires in 30 days. If you keep kosher, you know that $50 will not cover much for 4 individuals. After telling this story to others, I've found that since the former chef and wait staff went to ETC in Teaneck, the food and service has not been the same. I strongly encourage you to eat elsewhere for NYE or any other occasion. We could have ordered Chinese food and saved ourselves $350. Be forewarned!!!
