The food at Pier i leaves a lot to be desired. The location and view more than make up for it. This is a great outdoor spot in NYC that is not packed with tourists. On any Summer day you'll go there and see locals from the Upper West Side with their babies, dogs, and friends happily devouring the burgers & Cajun fries (which are my favorite things on the menu). Although to my chagrin, their wine list leaves a lot to be desired, the beer list is quite good. If you are going, get there before five and stake your claim. Pier i fills up quickly, especially on weekends. They offer free water, which is great for those of us with canine companions. You'll find me there quite often in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

So a hidden gem that when you look at it closely is cubic zirconia. The sunsets are the reason to come to this little outdoor cafe but that it. The food, terrible. The specials, terrible. The Waitstaff and Kitchen nice as can be. So where is the disconnect? I think it's the fact the don't have a chef. They have great line cooks but the lack of a real chef keeps this place from rising to next level. To be honest I don't think the owner wants it to. He's tasted Boat Basin (5 blocks up also on the water) and there food is terrible. All he needs to do is marginally better. The place is pack because of the gorgeous views, so who cares. My advice to him would be clean up the menu, increase prices, fix the atrocious wine list (it's horrible) and prosper. Though even with my advice I will say I keep coming back because the water views are amazing (and I can sneak in a sandwich).
