Their motto is STRONG ENOUGH FOR A CARNIVORE, MADE FOR A HERBIVORE! Only in Georgetown, the oldest neighborhood in Seattle, where artists, bohemians, families, businesses, and industry currently co-exist, can I find substantial vegetarian fare like this.
As a starving artist who lives and works in Georgetown, I often stop at Georgetown Liquor Company for LEIA’S TACOS. For $6 I get two tacos filled with GLT-made vegan meat, romaine, tomatoes, cheese, and fresh, flavorful salsa. I also recommend the WILD MUSHROOM TAMALES for those, like me, who appreciate authentic tamales baked in a corn husk. These wild mushrooms are simmered in beer!
Most fare is priced between $10 and $14. Choose a microbrew from wide selection on tap, including several hard to find on tap elsewhere in the city. Georgetown Liquor Company is located in the back of the old, stone Bertoldi Building about ten feet from an active railroad track. The noise from the railroad track is part of Georgetown’s quirky appeal, and shouldn’t be considered a deterrent.
And added bonus: bring your lap top for free wi-fi, or play Pacman on a real Atari machine.
- LEIA’S TACOS : economical and satisfying ($6)
- WILD MUSHROOM TAMALES : wild! ($14)
This is a destination that all vegetarian should visit at least once. Their fare is both filling, fresh, and healthy. Good drinks, and great selection of beers on tap. All of their sandwiches are to-die-for, even if no meat is included! They use mostly field-roast products, although they do have a few that have no meat substitute. Also, all of their soups of the day are superb, and they have vegetarian Split Pea available every day.
- The Baron : awesome, tangy, and filling ($10)
