Let me preface all of this by saying that I'm a native of Louisiana, born and raised in Baton Rouge and then spent my college years in Lafayette. The food was authentic and absolutely fantastic. I had the Red Snapper with Red Beans & Rice, my date had the Shrimp Etouffee Pasta. We started with an appetizer of 1 Lb of Crawfish (Regular or Turbo, we got the regular) which had a great flavor. My date had never had Cajun food before, and watching a novice try to peel crawfish is always fun :-). For dessert we split a piece of cheesecake with strawberries on top. Food - 5 stars. The building feels like they had it trucked over from back home. There's the flexible wooden floors, the low beamed ceilings, the decorations (a little overly focused on Mardi Gras but that's OK). Add fishing nets and a few mounted largemouth bass and it would have been like every other quality eating spot in every small town in LA. Ambiance - 5 stars. Our waiter was polite and attentive, filling drinks without us having to ask. There were no problems with the food or the ordering process. Where he fell short though was when we were done eating. After we paid the tab, they practically started bussing the table with us still sitting there. The waiter continued to return every 5 minutes to pull another item off the table, with the very last thing being our (still half-full) drinks. At that point we got the hint: leave so we can sit another party. This was a first-date and we were having a great conversation, and the constant prodding to leave was annoying. I personally blame the waiter rather than assuming that this is restaurant policy. Fortunately, there is a Starbucks next door that had no problem with us taking up a quiet corner to chat. Service - 3 stars, it would have been 5 but they all but ran us off at the end. You would think that a $12 tip buys a little more consideration than that. Overall, the food was authentic and excellent, the atmosphere was great (it really brought me back home) and the service was fine until they ran us off. The price was on the higher side for two people, $57 before tip. Value - 4 stars. More authentic environment than Pappadeaux in Addison for just about the same price.
