3/4 cups sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg, beaten

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and ginger. Stir lightly to combine thoroughly. cut in shortening until mixture has the texture of coarse meal. Stir in molasses and egg.
Step 3Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place on un-greased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Let them sit on the baking sheet for at least 1 minute before moving them to a wire rack for cooling.
