Easy Hot Buttered Rum

3 Main Ingredient: Rum Cuisine: European



3 C Water

1 Cinnamon Stick

1/8 tsp Ground Nutmeg

20 Cloves

1/4 C Brown Sugar (or 1/8 C white sugar and 1/8 C maple syrup)

1.5 Tbsp Butter

1 Pinch Salt

3 oz Rum (dark is better, but light works as well)


If you want to make a hot buttered rum recipe single serving, simply divide all ingredients by 3.

Step 1Cook all of the ingredients except the rum together in a pan.

Step 2Bring to a boil and then simmer for 10-30 minutes (cooking longer will increase the flavor).

Step 3Taste and add extra sugar if desired.

Step 4Remove from heat and add rum, stirring.

Step 5Allow the mix to sit for 2-3 minutes so that flavors come together fully.

Step 6Strain when serving so that solids don't end up in the mugs.

Step 7Serve in mugs.
