I pass by The Villa every week. To be honest, it doesn't look like much from the outside. And I have had so many disappointing experiences with Italian food in Sourth Carolina, too. I was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey, so when the people here tell me how much they love Pizza Hut, I cringe. Tired of eating Zaxby's salads every Wednesday, I stopped in.
The ambiance reminds me of the song "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" by Billy Joel. The kind of neigborhood restaurant with cheap decor but amazing food and good, friendly service. And it delivered. I ordered the lasagne, which was reasonably priced at $9.25. It came with my choice of garlic bread or French Bread, and a soup or salad. I chose the garlic bread & salad. The salad came out quick; there wasn't much to say about it, but the vegatables were fresh. Then the main dish came out, in under 10 minutes. The lasagne was the best I have had outside of my house. The meat sauce was clearly made with fresh beef, not the pre-packaged processed meat sauce that you get at many Italian restaurants. The garlic break was also quite tasty. Between the two, I was extremely full. However, I threw caution to the wind, and ordered the "New York Style Cheesecake". Despite my love of cheesecake, I am usually leery of it, especially when it proclaims to be "New York Style" (is there any other kind of style of cheesecake?). When it came out, I was blown away. Instead of the usual, dense block of fat that passes for cheesecake, it was light and airy, and very tasty. And at under $4 a slice, it is a bargain. My only regret is that the meal was so filling, I felt ready to pop for hours.
If you are looking for good Italian food at a great price, with a casual atmosphere, this is a great place to go.
