Tucked away in historic old town Murrieta sits a small building that houses a restaurant called The Mill. When you step through the doors, your nose will immediately be met with the wonderful smell of delicious Italian food and pizza. The rest of you will then be met by a friendly person, likely the owner, telling you that you can sit wherever you want.
Looking at the menu, you'll need to decide if you want pizza, pasta, a sandwich, or a salad. All of it is good. One of their specialties, the twice baked pasta, is a must have. The creamy sauce melts in your mouth. The chicken, mushrooms, onions, and garlic all blend with the sauce to create a taste unlike most traditional pastas. The cheese that's baked and melted into it on top just adds to the flavor explosion. This pasta is served over either penne or corkscrew noodles. I've tried both and prefer the penne, since it holds more of the sauce than the corkscrew.
The five cheese alfredo is another great dish. Get it with chicken, and you'll be glad you ordered it. Beware, it's very rich, so you probably won't be able to finish it.
Either of the pastas will be enough to split between two people if you also get a salad (big enough to split as well) and a 1/2 order of the fresh-out-of-the-oven garlic cheese bread. This bread has a sun dried tomato spread that just adds to the deliciousness of it. If you don't like sun dried tomatoes, they'll gladly make it without the spread (or with the spread on the side), and it's good with just the cheese.
Of course, no visitor to The Mill can leave without trying the pizza at least once. The sauce is incredible, and the toppings generous. I have ordered pizza dozens of times, and not once have they burnt it.
The nice thing about this restaurant is that there is rarely a long wait for a table. Even when they're busy, it moves quickly, so your wait is generally under 30 minutes, and usually 10 minutes or less.
I have visited The Mill dozens of times, sometimes twice a week. Only once have I had a bad experience. On New Years Eve, I went. I ordered the five cheese alfredo over fettucine noodles. After ordering, the server came back and let us know that they had run out of fettucine. We settled for angel hair. When it arrived, there was hardly any sauce on it. We mentioned this to the server, and she brought extra sauce on the side, so she did correct the problem without hesitation.
That was one bad experience, though, and i have had at least 30 good experiences. I keep going back because I know if I go to The Mill, I'll get good service and good food.
