This was the greatest German cooking in the USofA.
Perhaps you've driven by it and noticed the plethora of Sun City folk climbing out of it's doors. I can assure you, the elderly aren't there holding secret meetings. Mimi's cafe is delicious and they're holding out on us!
The first thing you notice walking in is the rustic italian feel of the interior. Even the art on the menus was a little "something" that used to keep my mind from wandering too far from my stomach. There's always a Jazz or Swing tune playing on the stereo system to keep you locked into nostalgia, rather than the top 50 chart toppers from the past few years playing in a loop. The atmosphere is just one reason to spend some dough on Mimi's Cafe. Oh, and the service is speedy!
I never used to believe the phrase "love at first taste" until I had my first tortilla chip coated in creamy, rich, spinach and artichoke dip. If there's one thing you must try on your first visit, I guarantee you can't go wrong! This bubbly, cheesy dip is something that people who frequent Mimi's will admit has the best of them.
The appetizer loved just as much would be their infamous French Onion soup. (even better is ordering the soup and dip as a light meal on the run) This soup is a rich beef broth simmered with caramelized onions and topped with a toasty slice of french baguette covered in parmesan cheese. This soup really dates back to being a "poor man's" food, but I could easily live the rest of my days in poverty if only I had a bowl of this stuff each day!
Glancing at the menu, it looks as if they pride themselves on their pasta, but I can assure you - everything is superb. Everything. The salads are LOADED. The burgers are cooked to perfection! The quiche is flaky and buttery. There isn't any prejudice between choices here, each meal is just as good as the last if not better. Pick whichever item first looks good, grab your fork and knife and dive right in!
