We went there as a suggestion through FriendsEAT! and all reviews were NOT overstated. Especially surprising was the cocktail selection - inventive, a new experience, and delicious. The mix master (bartender - whatever you call the one concocting drinks) is an artist. Try this before you go elsewhere. Not super vegetarian friendly but they'll work with you (they did with me).

Hosted my company's holiday party here and everything was amazing. The food was perfect, the wait staff friendly and attentive, and the wine selection had something for everybody. We (a group of 6) started with shared appetizers, of which the sweetbreads were definitely a highlight, and then moved on to entrees, each of which looked delicious, and mine at least (braised rabbit) was nothing short of amazing.If you haven't been to the Magpie yet I can't recommend them enough. They're a small location so make sure you have reservations.

Cosy, nice staff, good wine and beer range, and very nicely presented, tasty and inventive dishes! Reasonably priced: Recommended.

Magpie does most everything right. I would recommend making reservations, as it's not a big dining room. The decor is great and the service was really friendly. We almost wanted to sit at the bar, as it looked like a fun place to have a few drinks before dinner. Our cocktails were great, the appetizers were inventive and delicious, and the main courses (venison and pheasant) were quite good. My venison was perfectly cooked and it's accompaniments were great.A couple small quibbles - the dining room was a little too bright for our tastes - but just a tad. I get slightly annoyed when wine glasses are different for bottles versus wines by the glass. I was envious of the table next to us who had big, proper wine glasses, as we had the stemless, thicker glasses. They weren't terrible, and I know this is a really picky thing. All in all, Magpie was great!

Do reservations. But it worth coming too for your unusual food but good food.

Great local Gastropub! The service, food, and drinks were all excellent.

Very Richmond. Great food and good service - the wait staff were knowledgeable and friendly but for some reason getting refills on water takes a while - perhaps because they couldnt squeeze another waiter in the space if they tried.

They don't have a single bland dish on the menu, so make sure you're ready to be adventurous. There were some dishes that I thought they may have taken too far, but on the whole it was an enjoyable eating experience.
