Located at 2333 Arden Way in Sacramento, California, Leatherby's Family Creamery is a special family-run ice cream shop that has been in business since 1982. It is owned by Dave Leatherby Jr. and his brother Alan Leatherby, who both have the same goals in mind: to provide the freshest and most unique ice cream experience around. At Leatherby's, you can expect a wonderful and warm atmosphere, with the typical family-run feel. The shop is divided into two sections: inside seating and outdoor seating. If you're lucky enough, you may catch a glimpse of the Leatherby's family in action! Inside seating options include a variety of wooden tables, chairs, and couches while outdoor seating comes with a selection of different umbrellas and chairs. The menu at Leatherby's Family Creamery is a great mix of classic American fare,including burgers, salads, and other delicacies. Of course, the main attraction is Leatherby's ice cream. Ice cream flavors are constantly rotating, with seasonal offerings such as pumpkin and peppermint available in the fall and winter, respectively. The "Sundae Fun" section of the menu features some of their signature sundaes- such as the Banana Split, Peanut Butter Pie, and Oreo & Coffee Dream- as well as classic recipes like the Brownie & Caramel Delight. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, Leatherby's has grown from a small shop to a full-out franchise. It now has 3 restaurants dotted around Northern California and a number of nearly 30 creamery franchises in 6 states. In 1982, the Leatherbys opened their first shop in Citrus Heights, and several years later, they created a franchise company that allowed their unique experience to be shared with the world. Unfortunately, the Leatherby family sold the franchise company a while ago and is no longer affiliated with these locations. The reviews on Leatherby's have been very positive, praising their gluten-free food, fantastic staff and great selection of GF and some vegan/dairy-free food. You can visit Leatherby's any time between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday – however, people typically spend anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour here.
