Ingredients

  • 12 ozroast beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 loafbaguette
  • 1 mediumyellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 ozSwiss cheese, thinly sliced
  • 2 cupsbeef broth, low sodium
  • 1 clovegarlic, smashed
  • 1 tspWorcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbspbutter
  • 1 tbspolive oil
  • to tastesalt and pepper

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 375°F. Halve the baguette lengthwise and set aside.

    Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium. Add onions and a pinch of salt; cook 10-12 minutes until deeply caramelized, stirring occasionally.

    Add smashed garlic to the onions; cook 1 minute until fragrant. Transfer onions to a plate.

    Pour beef broth and Worcestershire into the same skillet; bring to a gentle simmer and keep hot for au jus.

    Lay bottom halves of baguette on a sheet pan; layer roast beef, caramelized onions, and Swiss cheese. Top with baguette tops.
