Ingredients

  • 40 piecesflat wafer sheets (obleas)
  • 1 jararequipe (dulce de leche or caramel spread)
  • 1 cupgrated coconut (optional)
  • 1 cupchocolate sprinkles or rice crispies (optional coating)

Recipe serves 20 people

Instructions

    Lay half of the wafer sheets on a clean work surface.

    Spoon about 1 generous tablespoon of arequipe onto the center of each wafer.

    Carefully press a second wafer on top, twisting slightly to spread the caramel evenly to the edges.

    If desired, roll the exposed caramel edge in grated coconut or chocolate sprinkles for extra crunch.

    Serve immediately or allow sandwiches to set in the refrigerator for 15 minutes for a firmer bite.
