  • 1 cupall-purpose flour
  • 1 tsppaprika
  • 1 tspgarlic powder
  • 1/2 tspcayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tspsalt
  • 1/2 tspblack pepper
  • 1 cupbuttermilk
  • 16 ozhamburger dill pickle chips, drained and patted dry
  • 1 qtvegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cupmayonnaise
  • 1/4 cupsour cream
  • 1 tbspfresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tsplemon juice
  • 1/2 tsponion powder

Recipe serves 4 people

Instructions

    In a shallow bowl, whisk together flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt and pepper.

    Pour buttermilk into a separate shallow bowl.

    Dredge pickle slices in the seasoned flour, dip in buttermilk, then dredge again in flour, shaking off excess.

    Heat oil in a heavy pot to 375°F (190°C).

    Fry pickles in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels.

    Stir together mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, lemon juice and onion powder for the ranch dipping sauce.

    Serve hot pickles immediately with chilled ranch dip.

Chef's Notes

Keep oil at an even temperature so the coating stays crunchy, not soggy. For extra tang, add 1 tsp pickle juice to the ranch.
